Preschool Threes

In the Preschool classrooms we begin to focus on academic standards. Piaget believed that a child learns from what is in their environment. At Chanen, we provide students with an environment that allows them to feel safe to explore, ask questions, and learn at their pace. We believe in providing concrete skills that provide a strong foundation for all future academic success.

Reading & Math Readiness

  • Recognizing uppercase letters and introducing their sounds
  • Rote counting to 20
  • Recognizing and manipulating objects 1-10
  • Recognizing basic shapes and colors

Fine Motor

  • Holding a writing utensil with a proper pincer grasp
  • Manipulating scissors
  • Picking up objects with thumb and finger
  • Manipulating objects such as string, pipe cleaners and beads

Gross Motor

• Jump forwards
• Kick a stationary ball
• Throw a ball overhand and underhand
• Ride a tricycle

Self-Help Skills

  • Washing hands
  • Use the restroom independently
  • Use snaps, zippers and buttons
  • Put on shoes

Communication

  • Following multi-step directions
  • Using full sentences with 2 exchanges
  • Asking questions
  • Can say first and last name when asked

Socialization

At this age students are engaging in play with their peers. Through social interactions, we explore the world around us. Teachers help students by modeling social cues and interactions.
