Jewish Life

The Shema, a central Jewish prayer, reminds us that it is an ultimate mitzvah (commandment) to ‘v’shinantam l’vanecha,’ to teach all of the ideas, thoughts, practices, rituals and values of Judaism to our children.

At Chanen preschool, the Shema is the underlying foundation of the way we approach the task of educating our each and every one of our students.

Whether we are playing at centers, teaching life skills, comforting a teething baby, getting messy in the art room, planting seeds in our garden, or celebrating holidays: Jewish values are at the core of each and every moment.

We hope that you will come and experience the joyful Jewish environment of Chanen Preschool at Congregation Beth Israel. It is our sacred honor to do this mitzvah of teaching each and every one of our children.

Daily Jewish Focus

At Chanen we strive to instill the values of kindness (chesed), respect (kavod), responsibility (achrayut), gratitiude (hoda’ah) and being part of a holy community (kehillah k’dosha).

Shabbat

Every Friday our classrooms gather and bring in the light and warmth of Shabbat. We light our candles, break our challah, drink our “wine” and say our prayers. After we celebrate as a classroom, we head to the beautiful sanctuary to meet our Cantor for a school wide Shabbat where we sing and dance and bring in Shabbat with everyone we love.

We foster a positive self-image and Jewish identity. Chanen Preschool strives to ensure that each child, who is a part of our Chanen community be rooted in Jewish values and traditions.

Holidays

At Chanen preschool each Jewish holiday is celebrated with art, music and learning in a fun and creative way. The students emerge themselves into each holiday by experiencing the taste, sounds and smells of the holiday.
